Even if you don’t recognize this album, you may have heard of a few songs. Masego has had a few hits well over 100 million streams on Spotify. Most known for his single, Tadow (feat. FKJ), which can be found on the Lady Lady vinyl. Masego himself describes the style of this album as TrapHouseJazz. This project does a fantastic job of blending the soulful production with Masgeo’s warm and rich vocal tone. On Lady Lady, no two songs sound alike, even though they blend in perfectly.
Released in 2018, the Lady Lady vinyl had three singles that came before it. Tadow, Lady Lady, and Old Age all gained attention following their releases. However, Tadow did the best and ultimately generated the hype for Masego’s next album. Pitchfork states that “His music is sophisticated, steeped in 1980s quiet-storm R&B with hints of smooth jazz along the fringes.” With guest features from FKJ, SiR, Tiffany Gouché, and De’Wayne Jackson, Masego finds a different energy for this album. He waited a few years for this project’s release, and in turn, gave us his best work so far in his career. The Lady Lady vinyl is available in black pressing.
